#2 is great, Ethan. I agree with you there. Sometimes though it's the other way round and you'd want someone to talk to, but there is nobody.
Thanks for your reasons.

Nooo! I got tagged. Ok, why I travel . . . well, you know what I say all the time, "once you backpack, you never go back." But if you ask me for specific reasons, I'd have to say it comes down to two. 1) There's never a day of drudgery, and 2) whenever you have the need to be by yourself, you can literally shut the world out just pretending you don't speak the local language. It's the type of thing you can't get away with back at home.

All the best, Boris. As always,

-Ethan

it is, mike! i always carry my dive equipment with me, though, which is quite heavy. not so liberating anymore, but this time i'm only gonna take 2 bags with me. no seperate bag for my dive gear, so some other things might have to stay home...

I love #2! I'm a minimalist to the Nth degree so ditching all but the most essential gear sounds so liberating to me.

Thank you for sharing your reasons! I really like reason #2. The idea of leaving behind the things that weigh you down- possessions, demands on your time, and paperwork- is very attractive, even for a short while.

#4 is great, too. Not having to answer to anyone but yourself or your travel partner. Each day is open to whatever you want it to be, no one else decides for you.
