BrightKite Invites

16 June 2008

I’ve just been invited to BrightKite. Anybody who doesn’t know this service, it’s basically a location aware Twitter. You can log your locations, see where your friends are and what they are up to. This seems to be well suited for travel blogs. I read somewhere that a future feature will include a map with your logged locations, so you could basically map your travels and then include that on your website. Sounds quite promising, but as with all of these new social networking sites, time will tell if it’s worth your time.

Anyways, I have a few invites available, if anyone is interested. Just tell me your favorite travel story and a magic email will fly into your inbox. First come, first serve, lads and lasses…

My favorite travel story was that time my friends and I went to the beach for a long awaited holiday together. Since our host owns one of the biggest liquor distributor in the island, the fridge was always stocked with alcohol. Of course this resulted to drunken episodes that involves somebody barfing up chunks of dinner and sleeping naked on the bathroom floor, and my friend seeing the first minutes of her birthday with somebody strangling her with malicious intent.

Okay, it wasn’t funny then, but it was definitely one of the memorable travel story. And we can laugh about it now lol

Man, I really want an invite but my travel stories aren’t nearly as exciting as nina’s! I guess my favorite travel story is meeting my birth mom in Seattle a few years ago. I can’t tell you how odd it is to look at someone’s face who you’ve never met and realize you’re related! I even got a rose tattoo to mark the occasion. We’re close but she’ll never be “Mom”. I was just lucky we got along.

Drove, hungover from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Two hours into the trip, we pull over for a rest and I have the nagging feeling something is wrong. I glance at a map. We missed the the turn an hour ago. You only need TWO highways to get from LA to Vegas, and we’ve missed one. Idiots.

At the Arizona border (!) we took an alternate route north, which turned out to be rather lovely, so it turned out okay. But still - major forehead slap. Cheers.

OK, this may not be my favorite travel story, but, by far the most memorable. I was making a cross country drive and ran into some horrible weather in the midwest (St. Louis area). I never saw a storm like that before. The hail was hitting my car sideways and I swear the lightning was red. It was 10pm and completely dark outside, aside from the red lightning strikes, and I was afraid to pull over in fear that a tornado might plow right into me. I decided to drive ever so slowly through the storm and made it to the hotel. It was one of the scariest experiences I have ever had.
