I took these shots around the Moni and Kelimutu area in late August 07. I found the kids really fascinating. They all loved their photo being taken and then looking at themselves through the little camera screen! And the lakes were just spectecular!!
Hi,
My name is Helena and I live in Montréal, Canada. I am dyeing to get a chance to travel like you. I saw your website and I am getting amazed by the pictures.
This Turquoise lake, what is it that makes it so turquoise?
Let me know…
Good luck in your future travelling.
It’s dissolved minerals and the colors change over time, Helena. In real life it looks so much more awesome, it looks unnatural really.
Good luck with your travels. Sounds like you’re ready to hit the road…
I am a faculty adviser to a high school robotics team at Tempe High School, Tempe, AZ, USA. One of the events we enter is the Nation Underwater Robotics Challenge. Since our school mascot is the Buffalo, I was wondering if we could use your picture (with credits) of kelimutu-water-buffal.jpg on our website. Currently the site is not interactive and needs upgrading, but a water buffalo is a perfect mascot for the underwater event and would give a flavor to the site.
Thanks for your consideration,
Mike Warner

Hey Mike,
tried to send you a mail, but it came back. Go ahead and use the image, but please put a credit up somewhere on your site. Also, when you have it up, please send me a link, so I can have a little peak.
All the best!
Hey Mate, interesting stuff i experienced Flores and Keli Mutu in 1988 and think about it constantly, this is the first time i have looked it up on the net, glad i did..
The turquoise lake was the same but the c/cola lake was a dark green and the black lake was a deep red maroon colour.
The locals explained to me that there beleif was that all the good souls went into the turquoise lake, the not so good ones into the dark green one and the murderers and rapists into the maroon one.
Was awesome walking up at 3am to get there for sunrise..
Are the busrides across flores still an experience to behold??
Hope u have success with your site, Cheers Rossi..
Stuart, bus rides haven’t changed one bit since the first time I came to Indo in 2000. You should go back and explore a bit more :)
Thanks Boris for your apreciation of the nature. I am one of the local people in wolowaru. we have a wonderful “spring water” that never been touched. It is like “litchfield” spiringwater in Darwin Australia. it is fantastic. Come and visit flores again.….
My 2 year old son loves the picture of water buffalo he keeps kissing the screen :)
