A couple of months ago I was in Lahore. At the time my laptop didn’t work as it should, so I never got round to editing the video footage I took from the Sufi Night. It happens every Thursday and you get to see some of the best Sufi dancing and drumming on the subcontinent.
The atmosphere is just unbelievable. You can experience a little bit of what I am talking about by watching the short video below. It doesn’t compare to the real thing, though, so if you should ever find yourself in Lahore on a Thursday night with nothing special to do, then get your bum over to the Regal Internet Inn (if you’re not staying there anyway) and ask for Niamat. He’s the inofficial driver there and goes every week.
Hey, Boris, How are you doin’ mate!?
I haven’t heard you for a long time, but at least you are still alive, aren ‘t you right!? laugh
Well, I’ve watched that video, and it seems enough crazy and exciting to me. Have you danced in the Sufi night already?
I guess you are now staying in Pakistan, right? How is the country and people? Do you see any foreigner from EU or USA or any developping countries? Though I know this may be a wrong idea, please let me know how it’s like to be. And do you think there is any danger?
I have been working pretty hard, and I got only 4 days vacation! hahaha I think people are crazy to work in Japan, hoenestly.
I would love to read your comment, mate. Take care and good travel!

Hey mate,
I’m back in Germany. Have been for almost 2 months now.
There were loads of foreigners in Pakistan and it was a little bit dangerous, but it’s very doable if you take care a bit.
4 days vacation? No, thanks!! :) How long are you gonna do that?
We weren’t allowed to dance on the night. It’s a form of talking to God, so if you don’t believe it’s best to just sit, watch and enjoy.
Take care,
Boris
How wonderful to experience this. My husband is Pakistani and i was able to visit 4 years ago, such a beautiful understated country. I was wondering if you would mind giving me your opinion my husband is asking for me to visit again but the only information i can get online advises against this. Didi you feel at ease in Pakistan or did you feel uncomfortable as an English woman im not too sure about visiting. Thankyou for taking time to read this.…
Thanks for your comment, Elaine! I guess most people would advise against visiting, but then again, most people have their information from the media. I have met a few western women travelling solo in Pakistan and none of them had any problems. Pakistanis might not understand why a woman, or anybody in fact, would travel alone, but most will go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Obviously there are certain unsafe areas, like the tribal areas and to some extend Peshawar and surroundings, but I think you’ll be fine. Where would you go if you decided to visit?
Hi Boris, I just saw your blog. I want to go to Lahore, Pakistan sometimes within the next year. I have friends there. I am a woman in my senior years, but very active and brave (you might say.) I travel alone most times. Do you think this would be a safe trip for me within this year or early next spring?
